WE ARE ASKING ALL PATRONS TO CONSERVE WATER USEAGE. DUE TO THE EXTREME TEMPERATURES WATER USAGE HAS INCREASED TO A LEVEL THAT WE NEED EVERYONE TO REDUCE THE OUTSIDE WATER USAGE. YOUR COOPERATION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. WE ARE HAVING TO BRING IN WATER TO MAINTAIN OUR SAND FILTRATIONS BAYS.
Around 8:30 PM this evening, it was reported that Water Service for Grouse Meadows Patrons is being minimally supplied by only the small pump at the booster station. There was a failure of one of the three pumps about a week ago, and parts were ordered to schedule the repair. Unfortunately, the other large pump also has experienced a failure at this time. KCWD#1 is working on combining the working parts of the two failed pumps to get one pump fully operating. The repair is estimated to take approximately three hours, and water service is expected to be restored around 11:30 PM tonight. Please monitor the blog for any updates. Thank you.
The monthly Board of Directors meeting is Wednesday June26, 2024 at 6:00 P.M. located at 6095 Mullan Trail Rd. The meeting agenda is available under the agendas pages.
Update; the work has successfully been performed connecting the new lines to the main and the water valves are turned back on. Water will resume fully in one hour approximately 12:45 p.m. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Water Service for the entire District will be interrupted from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday, June 17, 2024.
Contractor will be connecting new main on Capt. John Mullan to the Sunnyside Rd. main on Monday, June 17, 2024. A District wide water shutdown is required as multiple valves will need to be closed to isolate the connection point. In addition, the pumps in the main pump house will need to be turned off to reduce risk of over pressuring mains, requiring the District wide water service interruption.
Because of the difficulties to locate the Sunnyside main location with the last connection at Wagonwheel Rd., the contractor has already uncovered the Sunnyside main at Capt. John Mullan, so that work to make this connection can be started first thing Monday morning.
Please plan to avoid any water use during this shutdown so that mains remain pressurized until valves are re-opened.
Please monitor the blog for updates, and let your neighbors know about the planned shutdown, as not all Patrons subscribe to the blog.
Note: This will be the last District wide shutdown for the Phase 1 Capital Project.

The Contractor was able to complete the work to connect the new main on Wagonwheel Rd. to the Sunnyside main. Pumps and control system were restarted, valves have been re-opened and mains re-pressurized and flushed. District-wide water service is now restored.
Patrons should open one inside tap slowly to vent any air that may have gotten into their plumbing, and then flush their lines until running water is clear during first use.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to install the water system improvements.
As of 2:20 PM Monday, normal water use can be resumed for today.
Crews were unable to locate the Sunnyside main at Wagon Wheel Road, so did not complete the tie in. They will continue to work into Monday evening to uncover the Sunnyside main and do the connection work tomorrow.
Water Service for the entire District will be interrupted from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

On Wednesday, work was completed faster than expected. As a result, the only shutdown anticipated for Thursday will be about an hour beginning at 8:30 AM, to do the final connection to the generator at the Grouse Meadows Booster Station, and only Grouse Meadows Patrons will be affected during that time. The Main Pump House Back-up Generator is fully connected, and will be tested tomorrow, along with the generator for the Grouse Meadows Booster Station, but will not significantly affect normal water production.
Other than Grouse Meadows Patrons tomorrow morning, normal water use for the rest of the District can be resumed! Thank you for your cooperation today!
To all KCWD#1 Patrons:
To enable Avista and our contractors to install new transformers and connect the back-up generators to the automatic switch gear at the Main Pump House and the Grouse Meadows Booster Pump, the power to the Main Pump House will be shut down between 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM on both Wednesday and Thursday, May 15th and 16th.
The entire District will be operating off of the reservoir during these hours, so please minimize water use to bare essentials during the power shut down.
DO NOT SCHEDULE ANY LANDSCAPE WATERING BETWEEN 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM ON BOTH WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY!
Please let your neighbors know as not all Patrons subscribe to the blog or the automatic call messaging.
Thank you!

The new transformer has been installed and the raw water intake Pump House is back to normal operation.
Household water use can now resume to normal levels.
Thank you to all Patrons who helped by reducing their water use during this system failure emergency! With all the measures taken - potable water deliveries, reduced consumption; the system was able to maintain all critical parameters to deliver safe water to all Patrons during the last two days.
The raw water intake Pump House continued to operate through the night on generator power, and the sand filters are operating and actively replenishing the reservoir and distribution system. The Electrical Contractor was successful in locating a replacement transformer this morning, and after an emergency Board approval, is en route to picking it up and will be on site to begin the repair. The District is anticipating, barring any unforeseen issues, that the repair will be completed today, and the system will return to "normal" operation.
Please continue to minimize water use until the District provides notice that the system has been returned to normal operation (i.e. off generator power).
Update 5:45 PM: After having to rebuild part of the pump manifold that was damaged during this failure, the raw water pump station is now operating with generator power. Water is being pumped to the sand filters at this time, and if all goes well, the system should begin to recover through the night. The work to replace the failed transformer is anticipated to start tomorrow as soon as the electrical contractor receives the replacement.
Thank you to everyone for minimizing water use during this system failure emergency. With the help of the potable water deliveries, the net drop in the reservoir was to eight feet from nine feet this morning.
Please continue to minimize water use until the District provides notice that the system has been returned to normal operation (i.e. off generator power).
____________________
Update 12:30 PM: Generator has been connected, and we have power. However, valves are still frozen even though propane heaters have been running since 11:00 PM last night. Valve specialist was contacted early this morning and is now en route; should be on site within the hour to assess. Hope is that the valves can be made to work sometime today in order to pump water to the sand filters with generator power.
Replacement transformer will not be available until tomorrow morning. Installation is planned after it is received. Until then, the District will continue to run on the generator, and potable water will continue to be delivered to the clear well as needed.
Please continue to minimize water use until further notice.

Message January 14, 2024, 9:30 AM
This message is from the Kootenai County Water District No. 1 Board of Directors.
Late last night, District
personnel responded to an alarm and discovered that we had a transformer fire
in the lake raw water pump house, causing a power outage, which shut down the pumping
of raw water to the sand filters.
Currently, the District has
all trades on site to repair and restore power so that the pump house can be operational
again to refill the sand filters.
Potable water is being
delivered during the day until the pump house is operational, but at this time,
an estimated time of Restoration (ETR) is unknown.
The Reservoir is currently
at nine feet, and the entire District is operating off this reservoir
water. A full reservoir is 14 feet.
Please minimize water use
to the bare minimum until further notice to avoid depressurizing the main
lines.
Please check the KCWD#1 blog at www.kcwd1.blogspot.com for updates, and let your neighbors know about this water system
emergency, as not all Patrons have subscribed to the emergency notification
system or blog.
Thank you.
