Update: Planned Raw Water Intake Pump Shutdown Delayed until Tuesday April 14th

DELAYED:  Planned Raw Water Intake Pump Shutdown moved from Monday to Tuesday April 14, 2026 7:00 AM

To All KCWD#1 Patrons:

As part of the Phase 2 Capital Project, the rebuild of the District Raw Water Intake Pump House requires that the contractor disconnect the old pumps and reconnect to a temporary pump to continue the flow of raw water to the Slow Sand Filters (SSF's).  This will enable the remaining work to be done to replace the old pump house enclosure, reinforce the concrete pad, and install the new pumps, pipes, and electrical service.  Starting at 7:00 AM, Tuesday, April 14th, the old pumps will be taken offline as the water intake pipe is connected to the temporary pump.  The contractor anticipates that the disconnection and connection to the temporary pump will be completed no later than 4:00 PM on the same day, Tuesday, April 14th.

Prior to this work, the District will maximize water levels in all three SSF's, upper clearwell, contact chamber, and in both reservoirs.  This amount of water in the system, prior to the disconnection, should be more than adequate to service the District demand during the shutdown, BUT AS A PRECAUTION AGAINST UNFORESEEN DIFFICULTIES, THE DISTRICT IS ASKING ALL PATRONS TO MINIMIZE WATER USE FROM 7:00 AM TO 4:00 PM ON TUESDAY, APRIL 14TH, DURING THE SHUTDOWN.  PLEASE ANTICIPATE THIS SHUTDOWN BY FILLING STOCK TANKS FOR ANIMALS, WATERING LANDSCAPE, ETC., BEFORE TUESDAY AT 7:00 AM.

NOTE:  The temporary pump will be run manually, and will be powered by generator, to keep water flowing to the SSF's until connection to line power can be established when the new pumphouse electrical panel is installed and energized.

Please let your neighbors know about this planned pump shutdown, as not all Patrons subscribe to the KCWD#1 Blog.

Water System Emergency Update

 Phone Message January 2, 2026, 05:30 PM

This is a message from the Kootenai County Water District No. 1 Board of Directors.

This is an update to the water system emergency notification sent this morning at around 9:30 AM.  The controls failure and large main break that was discovered has unfortunately slowed recovery of the contact chamber and the reservoir.  The reservoir is currently at about one third full.  With the full isolation of the leak, water is continuing to be pumped to the reservoir while the contact chamber is also recovered in parallel.

We need all Patrons to continue to reduce water use to a minimum through the rest of the night.

If your water service was interrupted, flush your pipes until water is clear before use.

Please monitor the KCWD#1 blog at www.kcwd1.blogspot.com for any further updates, and let your neighbors know the current status of this water emergency, as not all Patrons have subscribed to the blog.

Thank you.

Water System Emergency! January 2, 2026

Phone Message January 2, 2026, 09:45 AM

This is a message from the Kootenai County Water District No. 1 Board of Directors.

This is a water system emergency notification.  A failure of the water system controls caused the reservoir to deplete causing widespread water service interruption in the District this morning.

In addition, a large main break has been discovered on Mullan Trail.  The District can isolate this break and still fill the reservoir manually, but we need all Patrons to immediately reduce water use to a minimum, or none at all if possible, for the rest of the day.  The reservoir recovery is estimated to be around 6:00 PM this evening.

Please monitor the KCWD#1 blog at www.kcwd1.blogspot.com for any further updates, and let your neighbors know the current status of this water emergency, as not all Patrons have subscribed to the blog.

Encourage your neighbors to subscribe to the blog to receive emails, when information is posted, via the link on the left side of the Home page of the KCWD#1 blog.  Also, if you have neighbors that do not get the automated emergency calls, please encourage them to sign up by using the Emergency Phone Contact Information Form that is linked in the upper right of the Home page of the District blog.

Thank you.

Controls Failure! Water Reservoir Recovery In Process

The District was notified this morning by customers, Friday, January 2, 2026, of low pressure/loss of water service.  It was discovered that we had a failure of the control system (which was recently worked on in preparation for bringing the new reservoir online) that has resulted in the reservoir being depleted, as it was not automatically being refilled.

The Water System Manager has now put the system on manual controls, and is in the process of replenishing the reservoir, as well as getting the controls engineer in to fix/test the controls for normal operation.

PLEASE REDUCE WATER USE TO MINIMAL FOR TODAY AS THE SYSTEM RECOVERS.
